Network - Why You Wanna Treat Me Like That (Rams Horn Records 1983)
For more than 20 years there has been a lot of mystery and speculation about the great and elusive band Network.
Only a few hundred copies of their terrific LP and 12 inches eventually got released in Holland on Rams Horn Records.
It was for this very reason that the LP has been one of the most looked after albums ever since. The fact that the Salsoul
logo was printed on the label, suggested that there were original U.S. copies existing and for 2 decades, die-hard collectors
have been
searching for Salsoul issues but without succes...because they don't exist. It wasn't until 2003 that the mystery got
solved thanks to producer Howard King (B.B.& Q. Band) who co-organized and participated in re-issues of Network's music on the
dutch Vinyl-Masterpiece label. It turned out that the Network LP initially did see the light in the U.S.A. but on Soulstreet Records,
and only 50 promo copies were released! Rams Horn somehow got hold on the mastertapes and started releasing the band's music
without ever asking
permission or paying royalties. Why the Salsoul-logo was printed on the label, still isn't quite clear to me.
So here you are looking at a Rams Horn 'bootleg' of 'Why You Wanna Treat Me Like That' which also got re-issued in 2003.
Remarkable is the erroneus written 'Netwerk' instead of 'Network', perhaps a case of mistyping or maybe deliberately
done, because the cover has the same error. Interesting to note, and possibly explaining the connection to Salsoul,
is that Network's LP cover artwork is exactly the same as Chocolat's 'Kings Of Clubs' album from 1977.
